Our organization is a growing network of families and friends interested in sharing their successes and challenges. We offer New Parent Welcome Information, outreach to area hospitals, monthly meetings and social events.
Down Syndrome Association of Virginia Peninsula has also offered seminars and training sessions of newer approaches to speech and language success to the greater community of educators, therapists and families.
In 2004 we began as an offshoot of The Down Syndrome Association of Hampton Roads (DSAHR), based in Norfolk, VA. The Organization was originally known as DSAHR-Peninsula. As time passed, it became clear that the geographic and demographic needs of the Peninsula were large enough to warrant an independent non-profit group. DSAHR supplied seed money to help us toward independence.
We incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2007. We are grateful to DSAHR for their continued encouragement and generous assistance in supplying new parent packets.
The DSAVP is funded by donations, sponsorship and fundraisers. We are a nonprofit organization that relies on the generosity of our community to fulfill our mission in providing programs and services to individuals with Down syndrome and their families
