I am blessed to have the honor and PRIVILEGE of being mom to Tekoa Asher. Tekoa was born in Sept. of 2006. We found out the day he was born that he has Downs Syndrome. Although we didn’t know during the pregnancy that he would be born with an extra 21st chromosome (also referred to as the “joy” chromosome) somehow God had prepared my heart to receive this precious little boy with great joy. He has inspired me, his dad, his grandma and his big sister by his sheer determination, his attentiveness to his surroundings, his desire to learn and to imitate what he sees his family members doing, and just his happy and joyful disposition. We have comments all the time by strangers about what a happy-go-lucky little guy he is. It is awe inspiring when any child learns how to crawl, walk, etc., but when your child has special needs and accomplishes these milestones, there is a tremendous joy that rises up in your heart knowing that their accomplishment is extra special.

I can speak for my husband, as well as my mom, that Tekoa has taught us a deeper sense of love and understanding of the fact that man may look out the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart, and Tekoa indeed has a heart of gold. We are thrilled to be entrusted with this special gift from God!!!
